Klamath, Ca.- Minimum-security inmate Corey Joseph Janic walked away from Alder Camp located near Klamath, California, in Del Norte County on March 26, 2014. Inmate Janic was apprehended at about 7:20 p.m. the same day two miles south of Alder Camp near the intersection of California State Highway 101 and Klamath Beach Road.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) staff members discovered inmate Janic in an outbuilding and apprehended him without incident. Janic was transported and re-housed in Pelican Bay State Prison located in Crescent City.
Janic was committed to CDCR on March 15, 2011, from San Benito County for first-degree burglary and unlawful taking of a vehicle. He was serving a five-year sentence and was scheduled to parole on November 13, 2014.
Of all offenders who have walked away or escaped from an adult institution, camp or community-based program since 1977, 99.1 percent have been apprehended.
